Polymeric Sand Replacement in Montreal’s West Island
Old, deteriorated or missing joint sand can leave pavers vulnerable to movement, weeds and water infiltration. Léger Landscapes provides professional polymeric sand replacement for driveways, walkways, patios and pool areas throughout Montreal’s West Island.
Need New Polymeric Sand?
If the joints in your driveway, walkway, patio or pool area are deteriorating, contact Léger Landscapes to have the existing installation assessed. We use high-quality polymeric sands from trusted manufacturers to help protect and stabilize your pavers.
When Should Joint Sand Be Replaced?
Polymeric sand naturally deteriorates over time due to weather, water, freeze-thaw cycles, pressure washing and regular use. Signs that it may be time to replace the joint sand include:
- Sand that is cracked, loose or missing from the joints
- Weeds or moss beginning to grow between pavers
- Joint material washing away after rain
- Pavers beginning to move or feel less stable
- Older sand that no longer bonds properly
- Uneven or deteriorated joints throughout the paved area
Replacing deteriorated joint sand helps improve the appearance of the installation while helping to stabilize the pavers and protect the joints.

Our Process
Proper preparation is one of the most important parts of polymeric sand replacement. Our process typically includes:
- Thorough pressure washing to remove the existing joint material
- Allowing the pavers and joints to dry appropriately
- Sweeping new polymeric sand across the surface and into the joints
- Compacting the pavers using appropriate padded compaction equipment
- Adding additional sand and compacting again where required
- Completing a final sweep and cleaning the paver surface
- Carefully activating the polymeric sand with water
- Cleaning the work area and protecting the surface while the sand cures
We use professional-grade polymeric sands from established manufacturers such as Techniseal.
What to Expect After Installation
After the polymeric sand has been activated, the area needs time to cure properly. We recommend keeping unnecessary foot traffic, vehicles and other activity off the treated surface during the initial curing period. Our crew will provide specific instructions based on the product used and the weather conditions at the time of installation.
Polymeric sand helps reduce weed growth and improve joint stability, but it does not make a paved surface permanently weed-free. Organic material can eventually collect on top of the joints, which is why regular sweeping and basic maintenance remain important.
